Experience
Mr. Lum is the founder and Managing Director of Accordence. He is also Professor and Director of the Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution at UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, California. Prior to founding Accordence, Mr. Lum was a founding member of ThoughtBridge, a partner with the consulting firm CMI (founded by Getting to Yes co-author Roger Fisher), a teaching fellow with the Harvard Negotiation Project, a counselor with Community Educational Services, and a journalist for East West News. At Accordence, Mr. Lum consults with clients regarding complex transactions, equipping individuals, teams and institutions with negotiation methodologies and skills. His work includes facilitation, coaching, and advising with clients in the health care, biotech, pharmaceutical, information technology, and financial services industries. Mr. Lum facilitates internal and external negotiations; mediates labor-management disputes; and advises on partnering and alliances. He has worked with sales teams, account managers, government officials, attorneys, business executives, educators, diplomats, and community leaders. Organizations with which Mr. Lum has worked include Eli Lilly & Company, Charles Schwab, Amgen, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, DuPont, World Bank, and the Red Cross. He has been an adjunct professor at UC Berkeley and Stanford Law Schools. Mr. Lum has also produced a video on multi-party negotiations and written a number of articles on collaborative processes. He is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post and has served as the negotiation expert for Monster.com on executive negotiation issues. Mr. Lum is author of the recently released McGraw-Hill book, The Negotiation Fieldbook. He is a member of the California State Bar and its Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution. Mr. Lum also serves as a board member of the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center.
