"Tear Down the Wall" Connected to Integrity, Transparency in HuffPost

Grande Lum’s recent e-book “Tear Down the Wall: Be Your Own Mediator in Conflict” strongly resonates with recent business and leadership research. David Gebler has found that commitment, integrity, and transparency are the essential building blocks for nearly all building transactions. With the insights from Lum’s e-book, Gebler believes that these three values are essential to conflict mediation as well.

One of Lum’s central messages in his book is that focusing on relationship is imperative to overcome intransigent conflict. Gebler compares this to the value of commitment: by committing to a relationship, you take ownership of the issue. Another one of Lum’s essays encourages readers to “Admit that it is you, not them.” This is a strong example of transparency, because taking responsibility allows parties to better assess each other’s contributions.
